Ferrari impressed a lot by displaying all the cars in it current lineup during the recent auto show in Paris, but the most interesting piece of exhibit for fans of the Italian brand and automotive lovers from all over is the carbon fiber tub or the monocoque without any attaching bodywork, drivetrain, or wheels.

The carbon fiber tub is the backbone of the exciting Ferrari F70 that is the designated successor of the celebrated Ferrari Enzo. The current design of the monocoque was based on all the lessons learned from their exposure at Formula One. It is the most complex the Ferrari team has made so far, and surely it is the most advanced backbone for a street-legal Ferrari.

Ferrari designers made use of four kinds of carbon fiber to construct the monocoque. The main architecture was crafted using T800 carbon then overlaid with T800UD for extra strength. The underbody was created using the carbon fiber called M46J that is well-known for its tensile strength. The doors were crafted from the highly impact absorptive T100, the same material used for the nose of F1 cars.

The undertray is layered with Kevlar, the material that bullet proof vests are made of, to make sure the cabin is protected from any debris on the road.

The combination of the different carbon fiber materials forms a tub that is about 20% lighter than the Ferrari Enzo chassis. Despite the lighter monocoque, the chassis is stiffer by 22% and has a higher torsional rigidity of as much as 27%. The stiffer and lighter combo means a faster car with great handling.

The drivetrain of the Ferrari F70 was revealed during the auto show in Beijing earlier this year. It will not be too long before they put these things together for another great stallion.

Watch the video below if you want to learn more about this carbon fiber tub:

When chef and restaurateur Gordon Ramsay is not busy giving lesser chefs a taste of hell time, garnering more Michelin stars, or maybe cashing some checks from his businesses, he is busy with his other passion – Ferrari automobiles.

The celebrity chef has been an owner of a Ferrari for quite some time now but had never had an opportunity to visit the home of Ferrari in Italy. Well, he got his connections and making it to Maranello is never an issue.

Ramsay was able to tour the whole deal from the Atelier shops, Tailor Made, and even had a chance to receive lessons behind the wheels an F12 Berlinetta on the circuit from Raffaele de Simone, the official test driver of Ferrari. Ah, we are pretty sure de Simone was very gentle with the chef.

Ramsay also got a taste of the cuisines offered at the il Podio, the company restaurant of Ferrari. The chef might have lowered his standards and declared the food delicious. We are pretty sure the kitchen staff was able to calm their trembling knees and rejoiced.

But seriously, Gordon Ramsay admires passion and the quest for pefection, and Ferrari has been known for these qualities since the start. The chef might have his reasons for all his rants and tirades but has certainly worked hard to earn all his success.

If Ferrari has been winning the thumbs-up of Gordon Ramsay, definitely they are doing it right.

Below is the video to show you what happened during his visit:
In 2010, Ferrari chose the company Cabestan in France, and just last year, the Swiss Firm Hublot was honored with the job. This year, the Italian Movado Group gets a chance to render the Ferrari and the Ferrari Scuderia’s personalities into their own designs. This is a tall order because in 2009, another Italian watch maker, the Paneria, made such a huge success when they rendered the Ferrari cars into their watch designs.

The products will be luxury watches and would be pegged at around $2000 apieace. They’re certainly not cheap purchases, but should be attractive to Ferrari fans worldwide. These will be marketed globally, and could be bought in wholesale or retail from Ferrari stores.

According to Movado, the design will be largely inspired by the exterior of the Formula 1 cars and car parts. They said they were going to make sure that the design would be very identifiable to Ferrari cars. Luca di Montezemolo, on the other hand, is extremely excited about the collaboration. Movado, after all, also produces watches for huge brands like Hugo Boss, Lacoste, and Coach.

The Ferrari boss further stated that he is looking forward to seeing the fruit of Movado’s expert designs. Fans around the world have always flocked to purchase Ferrari watches even if the price range is pretty high. Most Ferrari fans who can’t afford the cars themselves are more than happy to own at least a luxury watch which celebrates the Formula 1 car’s design.

If you’re interested, you might want to check out the Annual Watch and Jewelry Fair to be held in Basel, Switzerland this 2013. The Ferrari-Movado watches would be showcased there.

Since the Italian supercar manufacturer offers a good range of options to customize your ride, you might need some time to figure things out. You might want to preview any changes or tweaks for your new ride. Good thing then than the configurator website for the 458 Italia Spider has just gone live.

The first step to customize your Ferrari is actually an immediate challenge. You might just nod that it should be Scuderia Red but what if you are presented a Moderna Yellow. And what if you hear other Ferrari lovers that those two are not the only colors that will look good on your open-air speed monster. What if you see 38 colors to choose from? Make life a bit more difficult with 6 options for your rims and about 20 options that you can add to the exterior of the car.

More headache is expected when you see the options for the colors of the interior of the 458 Italia Spider. You have to choose the seats size and style, color of the carpet and material, trim pieces, and the other options for the interior.

Once you have made up your mind for the exterior and interior elements of your new Ferrari ride, you can print a summary out. You guessed it right. This might take you at least an hour. Perhaps more if you not just having a wishful thinking that you are buying one.

The configurator though will not show you how the tag price is also going up with every element that you add to the Ferrar 458 Italia Spider. The car marques is leaving this to be discussed with your Ferrari dealer. Buying and setting up your Ferrari has nothing to do with saving money, so expect the total payable to sky rocket once you are done with the configurator.

Starting point for a Ferrari 458 Itali Spider – $257,000.

It seems that there’s no stopping tuning companies from all over to world to make sports cars look sportier, meaner, and definitely more impressive in terms of engine performance. Here’s another example.

Tuning company, Masonry, has revealed an impressive power package called the Stallone, which is based on the model Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, sometime in 2008. The Stallone power packed is quite impressive itself but according to some forum members of TeamSpeed and a car expert, it still needs a few more additions to make it complete. They suggested that the interiors and engine / software upgrades wouldn’t hurt along with a matte red body finish.

Nevertheless, Masonry did a great job on the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, giving it a sportier look with the addition of carbon fiber parts, increased engine performance, and leather seats and trims for its exclusive clients. The chassis components of the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano have been treated with the carbon fiber and therefore decreased its overall weight. The Stallon package boasts of new side skirts, revamped rear design, sporty-looking rear mufflers and suspension spring, and exclusive air intakes. As for interior upgrades, we also have the exceptional craftsmanship made from Ostrich leather, carbon fiber trims and seams.

Under the hood of the Stallone package is a supercharged V12 engine with 720 horsepower (from the standard 620HP) with an additional torque of 92 Nm. The stainless steel sporty-looking muffler is also added to give the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano a smashing good appearance.

The Ferrari 458 Challenge was recently unwrapped at the ongoing Bologna Motor Show that runs until December 12, 2010. The 458 Challenge is the track version derived from the 458 Italia. The track version of the 458 has a lot of upgrades from the road legal stablemate making everyone awaits for its performance at the single-racing series of Ferrari hitting North America, Europe, and the Asia Pacific.

The 458 Challenge retains the 458 Italia’s V8 4.5L capable of giving out 570 horsepower at 9,000 rpm but the Ferrari engineers have made a lot of adjustments in terms of the gear ratios and the F1 dual clutch gearbox to make it gallop faster on the track. The Challenge is also equipped with the electric differential setup just like the road legal version. The Ferrari Challenge will be utilizing the F1 traction control system.

The setup of the track version 458 is further bolstered by an upgraded suspension setup with stiffer springs, lower ride height, uniball joints made from steel, and single rate alloy dampers. The engineers ensure its stopping capabilities by installing the latest CCM2 brakes from Brembo and the Ferrari ABS setup similar to the 599XX.

Ferrari also made the car lighter with the focus on decreasing the thickness of the body panels and by using Lexan and carbon fiber materials all over.

With all the improvements done to the Challenge, the lap time of the 458 at the Fiorano circuit was trimmed down by 2 seconds compared to the performance of its predecessor.

Other racing vehicles are also being exhibited by the Italian car marques at the motor show in Bologna including an F1 and AF Corse.

People from Maranello hinted that the 458 Italia Spider from the stable of the prancing horse marques will come with a folding hardtop! You read that right and that will be a feature similar to its sibling, the Ferrari California.

Ferrari lovers though might be wondering how the mechanism for the hardtop will be installed since unlike the California which has its engine in front, the 458 Italia has its engine mounted in the rear.

We are pretty sure though the designers and engineers have all it figured out so we leave it all to them. With the California, the hardtop was made from aluminum panels with a supporting structure also made from cast aluminum which decreased its overall weight. Press the switch and the roof will close or open in 14 seconds.

The 458 Italia Spider will make use of a V8 4.5L engine that can give out 578 horsepower. This Ferrari can zoom from 0 to 100 km/h in a matter of 3.4 seconds with its max speed pegged at 325 km/h. This new model will be a bit slower compared to the coupe as the mechanism for the mechanism of the folding hard top will add some pounds to the car.

So what record did that Ferrari car break again? When the Italian maker came out to announce Ferrari’s record breaking drive down the Nurburging track, a lot of people had question marks on their faces. This is probably due to the fact that the Ferrari 599XX is track-centered and is not available, legally, for city-driving. No matter, the car still broke the lap record for production derived sports cars in Nurburginring, reinstating Ferrari’s top spot in terms of engine performance.

Apparently, it broke the 7-minute barrier on the 20.832 km track, leaving behind the Dodge Viper ACR and the Corvette ZR1 in its dust. The Viper finished the ring in 7:22:10, while the Corvette wasn’t too far behind with 7:26:40. Unlike the Ferrari, though, both of these car models are street legal, leaving most consumers with a “So what?” thought bubble.

Still, watching the Ferrari 599XX finish a lap on the Nurburging track is well worth 7-minutes of any car lover’s time. Never mind that you’ll probably never get to own one.

The Ferrari 500 XX is based on the Ferrari GTB Fiorano. It has the same transaxle and engine type, which classifies it as an extreme track car. Modifications on the engines’ combustion chambers, exhaust tracts and inlets helped the car reach its target power of 700 HP at 9,000 rpm.

The car also comes with slick tyres which were developed to increase lateral acceleration and maximize stability while cornering. F1 engineers also used Ferrari “doughnuts” to protect the brake discs and wheel rim.

I usually rent a ferrari 360 modena in Las Vegas – Can’t wait to rent a 599XX!
