So what record did that Ferrari car break again? When the Italian maker came out to announce Ferrari’s record breaking drive down the Nurburging track, a lot of people had question marks on their faces. This is probably due to the fact that the Ferrari 599XX is track-centered and is not available, legally, for city-driving. No matter, the car still broke the lap record for production derived sports cars in Nurburginring, reinstating Ferrari’s top spot in terms of engine performance.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Apparently, it broke the 7-minute barrier on the 20.832 km track, leaving behind the Dodge Viper ACR and the Corvette ZR1 in its dust. The Viper finished the ring in 7:22:10, while the Corvette wasn’t too far behind with 7:26:40. Unlike the Ferrari, though, both of these car models are street legal, leaving most consumers with a “So what?” thought bubble.

Still, watching the Ferrari 599XX finish a lap on the Nurburging track is well worth 7-minutes of any car lover’s time. Never mind that you’ll probably never get to own one.

The Ferrari 500 XX is based on the Ferrari GTB Fiorano. It has the same transaxle and engine type, which classifies it as an extreme track car. Modifications on the engines’ combustion chambers, exhaust tracts and inlets helped the car reach its target power of 700 HP at 9,000 rpm.

The car also comes with slick tyres which were developed to increase lateral acceleration and maximize stability while cornering. F1 engineers also used Ferrari “doughnuts” to protect the brake discs and wheel rim.

I usually rent a ferrari 360 modena in Las Vegas – Can’t wait to rent a 599XX!

Ferrari, as the name indicates, is synonymous with the need for speed. That too, for the ones who love to be driving an Italian masterpiece of art, speed and power combined to form an intricate web of grandeur and grace. The Ferrari has been a symbol of power and wealth for just over six decades.

Starting with the Ferrari 1947 125 S, all its descendents have been creating a name for themselves both on the racing track as well as the hearts of everyone that uses them. The Ferrari joined the Formula One World Championship in its very first year of existence. It also got its very own first victory on the 1951 British Grand Prix. Until 2007 team Ferrari has won themselves an astounding 15 World Drivers Championship titles since 1952. Their victories don’t stop just there; they also won 15 World Constructors Championship titles since 1961. 201 Grand Prix victories is something worth bragging about as well.

All those victories were made possible starting with the Ferrari 166M driven by Luigi Chinetti back in 1949 where the Ferrari made history in motorsports. The Ferrari’s victories on every race tracks all over the world were thanks to the pedigree cars manufactured initially by Enzo Ferrari himself. Later on, the legacy of the Ferrari was carried on by the Fiat group which bought Ferrari S.p.A from Enzo Ferrari in 1969 because he was struggling financially. Even after Enzo Ferrari’s death in 1988 when he was 90 years old, the “Prancing Horse” has been creating strides through the portal of time with its pedigree racing Ferraris.
